The accusations against the defendants in the Republic v. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid & 9 Others case were modified today by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
In light of the information uncovered by continuing investigations, this revision raises the counts from 25 to 54. Court is hearing the case this morning.
In total, the Republic has filed 54 criminal charges worth GH¢291,574,087.19 and US$332,407.47 against executives of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and many affiliated companies for alleged widespread extortion, abuse of public office, and money laundering.
Under the pretence of official duties, the accused are accused of extorting hundreds of millions of cedis and foreign currency from oil marketing companies and bulk oil transporters. The proceeds were then allegedly laundered through business entities and property acquisitions to hide their illegal origins.
Albert Ankrah, Isaac Mensah, Bright Bediako-Mensah, Jacob Kwamina Amuah, Wendy Newman, Propnest Limited, Kel Logistics Limited, Kings Energy Limited, and Mustapha Abdul-Hamid are among the defendants.
The OSP has blocked a number of the accused’s assets in the meantime, including vehicles, including tanker trucks, gas stations, homes, apartments, and land parcels worth more than GH¢100 million.
