The New Patriotic Party (NPP) appeared in 1992 Ghanaian general election with a presidential candidate called, Professor Adu Boahen.
The rebirth of the party and its leadership managed their affairs well though they did not emerge triumphant in their first appearance in 1992.
Before the 1992 general election, the presidential senior contenders were Prof. Adu Boahen and His Excellency former president John Agyekum Kufuor.
Since the party did not win the election in 1992, the presidential candidature shifted from Prof. Adu Boahen to Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor in 1996.
From 1996 to 1999, the flagbearership race was between Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor and Mr. Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo.
Fortunately, Mr. Kufour emerged the winner in 1999 and took the flag of NPP to the promised land in 2000.
He won the presidential election for the first time for the NPP and took over the throne from Jerry John Rawlings of NDC in 2001.
From there, his immediate contender, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo also had sets of competitors until 2016 when he won massively for the NPP and now the incumbent president of Ghana and he is representing the 2nd president from NPP.
Since political game is not over, who takes the flagbearership position from His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Kuffo Addo from NPP in 2024?
Some media deskses are thinking the queue for competition would continue while others think otherwise.
Is the party in position to change the trend of leadership and the flagbearership position?
Who takes the position, Appraku, Alan or Bawumia?
Though the battle is the Lord’s, the game has just started!
