Early in the new year, MTN Ghana informed its clients of an important disruption, clearly connecting the scheduled outage to impending adjustments to the country’s tax laws.

The telecom giant declared in a statement that “there is a scheduled maintenance planned for January 2, 2026, from 12:00am to 04:00am in preparation for the new VAT reform tariffs.”

It stated clearly that “during this period, airtime and data bundle purchases will not be possible.”

Customers who depend on late-night or early-morning top-ups will be impacted by the four-hour overnight maintenance window, which will temporarily halt all recharge and data purchase channels.

Whether other services, such voice calls, mobile money transactions, or internet usage for current packages, would be impacted during the repair period was not made clear in the advice.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” MTN Ghana said in response to the expected disruption.

The company’s famous motto, “everywhere you go,” concluded the statement.

The goal of this proactive system update is to guarantee that MTN’s billing and sales platforms are fully operational and compliant before the amended Value Added Tax regulations go into effect. These regulations are expected to have an impact on pricing structures across the nation’s services.
