From: Kofi Yamoah
Dear President Akufo-Addo,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. My name is Kofi Yamoah, a son of Georgina Adwoa Asantewaa of Nkwantapong and the late Akwasi Asare of Ankaasi Lake Side. I write to you as a concerned citizen and a supporter of your administration, acknowledging the remarkable achievements you have made during your presidency.
Your tenure has been marked by significant accomplishments, and your dedication to advancing Ghana’s infrastructure, economy, and international standing is commendable. The progress you have spearheaded, including the dualization of major roads and numerous developmental projects, has undoubtedly left a positive impact on our nation. Your efforts are evident and deserving of praise from all corners.
However, as we approach the final stages of your presidency, I am deeply concerned about the future direction of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the continuity of your policies. The NPP faces the critical challenge of breaking the eight-year electoral cycle, and it is imperative that we ensure a smooth transition that will continue the progress you have initiated. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, your vice president and a dedicated public servant, is well-positioned to carry forward your vision. It is crucial for the party and the nation that Dr. Bawumia succeeds you, thereby maintaining the momentum of your reforms and the integrity of your legacy.
Every parent dreams of seeing their children succeed and achieve their full potential. Similarly, as a leader, your desire to see Ghana thrive and your party’s vision continue beyond your tenure should be paramount. The work you have done is monumental, but the reality is that the challenges facing our country are multifaceted. While many Ghanaians recognize and appreciate the progress, there are still concerns about economic hardships, which some attribute to external factors beyond your control.
In the event of a change in power, there is no guarantee that your successor will maintain the same commitment to your projects or vision. I recall the plight of travelers on the Accra-Apedwa road during President Kufuor’s administration, a project left unfinished, causing significant inconvenience. I remember my uncle’s friend, Dominic Owusu Sekyere, enduring a grueling nine-hour journey due to the poor state of the road during the rainy season. Such experiences underscore the importance of continuity and the need to complete and maintain essential infrastructure projects.
With only a few months left in your presidency, I urge you to focus on ensuring that your legacy is preserved. Supporting Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy and ensuring that the NPP remains united and strong will be key in achieving this goal. We must not become complacent, believing that the sheer volume of work done will be enough to secure future electoral success. The concerns of everyday Ghanaians, who are primarily focused on their immediate needs, must also be addressed.
Finally, I respectfully appeal to you to use your remaining time in office to fortify your party’s position and support Dr. Bawumia. Your legacy is not only about the projects completed but also about the sustained growth and stability of Ghana. Let us work together to ensure that the progress you have made is not undermined but rather built upon for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
May God continue to bless you with wisdom and strength as you navigate this crucial period. Thank you for your dedication and service to our nation.
Sincerely,
Kofi Yamoah
