Ghana’s 1-1 tie with Chad at N’Djamena yesterday, Thursday, Matchday 7 of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, was mostly caused by the poor condition of the playing surface at the Stade Olympique Idris Deby Itno, according to Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
Mohammed Kudus’s accurate cross was finished by Jordan Ayew in the 17th minute to give Ghana the lead.
Celestine Ecua, however, scored a goal just two minutes before the end of the game to give the home team an equalizer and prevent the Black Stars from winning.
After the game, Addo bemoaned the state of the field, claiming that it hindered his team’s play and interfered with their strategy.
“It’s very difficult to play on this terrain when it’s not watered. We can’t play fast, so it’s a disadvantage for us when the pitch is not wet,” he explained.
“The pitch was very slow for us, so it’s difficult to outplay the defenders. But Chad did well in defending.”
Priorities will soon turn to the Black Stars’ Matchday 8 match against Mali, which is set for Monday, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The game starts at 19:00 GMT.
Ghana’s prospects of qualifying are still intact, as they lead Group I with 16 points despite the loss.
