Update on the man Handcuffed over Gh¢2.00 debt: Police interdicted for alleged professional misconduct
“The Police Administration has interdicted Inspector Kennedy Mantey Ampofo of Sampa District Police Command for allegedly handcuffing one Frank Kofi Adu, a cobbler, and failing to take him through due process.”
“The said Police Inspector has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter”, the Police statement indicated.
Meanwhile, Newsmen Speaking in an exclusive interview with Mr. Frank Kofi Adu, the victim, he noted that he has been through a lot of pain in his wrist after he was handcuffed for about 2days.
He explained that the Sampa district police command after writing his statement has turned their back on him without giving him any attention while his wrist keeps swelling.
He has called on the police authorities and other stakeholders to come to his aid in ensuring that justice prevails because he hasn’t been to work since he was handcuffed to date.
BACKGROUND
It was reported that one Frank Kofi Adu who is a cobbler in Suma Ahenkro and Sampa within the Jaman North District of the Bono region, was handcuffed by his friend police officer Inspector Kennedy Mantey Ampofo popularly known as Opete who operates drinking spot for his unable to settle 2cedis debt on alcohol he bought.
According to Frank Kofi Adu, the victim, he went to terms with the police officer to pay the Gh¢2.00 debt as soon as possible he gets the money but the police officer only agreed to the terms of handcuffing him as he goes out to search for money, Kofi Adu after getting the money upon return to the drinking spot realized the spot was closed with the police officer being nowhere to be found hence he reported to Sampa police command to intervene by unlocking the handcuff where all efforts proved futile, he headed to Suma Ahenkro police station for Assistance but they couldn’t open the handcuffs.
The handcuffs were subsequently seen bladed for his freedom.
