Rawlings Shuts Down Office over Coronavirus Scare

Ghana’s former President Jerry John Rawlings has shut down his office as a preventive measure from Coronavirus infection.

“The office of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, former President of the Republic, wishes to announce the immediate closure of the office.

The closure is due to the unfortunate spread of the Covid-19 virus” a statement issued Friday stated.

The Statement added “The decision which is aimed at protecting staff and potential visitors will be reviewed after two weeks.

The former President once again urges all Ghanaians to be mindful of their discipline and care as we work to combat the disease. He calls on all to wear their masks, maintain appropriate social distancing, cough etiquette, and general hygiene protocols. Members of the general public who wish to urgently contact the office can do so through email – office@presidentrawlings.com, kobbyandoh@gmail.com.”

Ghana’s coronavirus case count now stands at 23,463 as of Thursday, July 9, 2020, after 641 new infections were recorded.

These new cases, according to the Ghana Health Service were recorded in 52 districts across eight regions.

In total, over 1,400 new cases have been recorded in the last two updates from the Ghana Health Service.

The number of discharged persons after treatment has also gone up to 18,622 with 4,717 active cases remaining. The death toll stands at 129.
