RE: ABOUT 5.8 MILLION CHILDREN IN GHANA HAVE NO DESKS AT SCHOOL

Our attention has been drawn to a Ghana News Agency online publication on 9th February, 2023, under the headline ‘About 5.8 million children in Ghana have no desks at school – Eduwatch’.

The said story is based on Eduwatch’s Education Alert Policy Brief Volume 25, titled ‘Confronting the desk deficit in Ghana’s basic schools’ and published on 6th February, 2023.

We wish to state that, no where in the said Policy Brief was it indicated that 5.8 million Ghanaian children lacked desks. Rather, the last sentence of the first paragraph stated that 2.3 million public basic school pupils are without desks in Ghana.

For the avoidance of doubt, the 5.8 million mentioned in the Policy Brief was the total population of public basic school pupils, not the number of pupils without desks.
