Nsuhia (Dormaa Central, Bono Region) – The Readspell Literacy Foundation has held a Readspell Phonics Workshop for Literacy Club Coordinators in the Nsuhia/Asikasu Circuit of the Dormaa Central Municipality as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen foundational literacy in Ghana’s basic schools.

The workshop, held on Thursday, 16th October 2025, brought together coordinators from various basic schools, education supervisors, and facilitators from the Foundation. Speaking at the event, Salomey Kwabea Agyei, Founder of the Readspell Literacy Foundation, emphasized the organization’s mission to make reading easy and accessible for every Ghanaian child. “Our vision is to ensure that every learner can read fluently with understanding, regardless of their background or location,” she said.

Since its inception, the Foundation has trained over 1,000 teachers and club coordinators across several districts in the Bono Region—including Dormaa Central, Berekum East, Sunyani West, and Techiman South—and has established literacy clubs in more than 500 basic schools, benefiting over 21,000 pupils. Thousands of phonics books, flashcards, and instructional materials have been distributed to schools to support reading improvement.
The Nsuhia/Asikasu workshop focused on standardizing literacy club operations across schools and fostering collaboration between the Readspell Foundation, the Ghana Education Service, and local communities. Participants received phonics books and flashcards to aid in classroom activities.
According to the circuit supervisor, the training marks a significant step toward improving reading fluency and comprehension among early-grade pupils in the area. He lauded the Readspell Foundation and its partners for their continued investment in education at the grassroots level.
