If there is one thing you should do this week, let it be this: be someone that others want to work with.
Beyond a point, your reputation determines how high you will go on the career ladder. And it takes months, sometimes years, to build one that truly matters.
The people who consistently grow, get trusted with important projects, and influence decisions aren’t always the loudest or most self-promoting. They’re the ones people want to work with, listen to, and trust. They’re the ones with incredible reputations.
That is why I say that, aside from money, reputation is the hardest to build and easiest to lose. And just like money, losing it hits harder than never having it.
It takes years to build, but one mistake to destroy. People forgive failure, even ignorance. But once they question your integrity, it’s over. Trust is like glass, once broken, the cracks never disappear.
You see respected people lose everything overnight, not for lack of talent, but because they let their reputation slip. One wrong move is all it takes.
In all endeavours of work and life, money comes and goes. Reputation keeps doors open. When people trust you, they’ll bet on you even when you have nothing. But once that trust is gone, even money won’t buy it back.
Guard it like your life depends on it. Because it does.
