Parents of students at Ngleshie Amanfrom Government School are expressing their outrage over a recent request for water and power fees from the school.
Each student has been asked to contribute 10 Ghana cedis to cover these expenses. One parent, Prophet Nana Yaw Osei Tutu, also known as Prophet 99, the General Overseer and Founder of Yehowa Beye Prayer Ministry, has already paid for his wards and finds the situation perplexing.
Prophet Nana Yaw Osei Tutu expressed his astonishment, saying, “I’ve never seen anything like it since I was born.”
He questions why a school would expect students to pay for their power and water bills, emphasizing that primary school students should not have to attend school in the evening to earn money for such expenses.

He finds the situation grave, especially considering the significant amount of money being collected. He wonders whether the manufacturers of children should also be required to pay for water and energy bills.
Meanwhile, other parents have claimed that the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is responsible for this decision. According to them, the PTA made this choice to assist school administrators in managing the school and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.
Some parents sent texts and voice notes during a morning show broadcast, asserting that the decision was not made by the school itself but by the PTA.
The request for water and power fees from the students has sparked a wave of dissatisfaction among parents. They argue that such financial burdens should not be placed on young children and their families.

The issue has raised concerns about the affordability of education and the responsibilities that should fall on the shoulders of educational institutions. The school and PTA now face pressure to address the concerns and provide a satisfactory resolution to the situation.
