According to a report filed by 3news, a mango processing factory situated in Kintampo, Bono East region, has been abandoned and left in a state of disarray.

This factory was established as part of the government’s One (1D1F) initiative but has been non-functional for an extended period.

The deserted state of the mango processing factory has raised concerns among local residents, as the premises have become overgrown with weeds.

A photo shared on social media depicted the building, adorned in white and coffee-colored hues, with a locked main gate surrounded by unruly vegetation.

In 2022, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that a total of 106 factories out of the 278 planned under the 1D1F program were operational.

He further disclosed that 148 factories were under construction, while 24 were in the mobilization stage. This information was conveyed during the 2022 State of the Nation Address delivered in Parliament.

The abandonment of the mango processing factory in Kintampo serves as a setback to the government’s initiative aimed at promoting industrialization and economic growth in various districts across the country.

The 1D1F program seeks to establish factories in each district, facilitating job creation, poverty reduction, and overall development.

The present condition of the factory raises questions about the efficiency and sustainability of the initiative.

The fact that this particular facility has remained non-operational for an extended period indicates a failure to achieve its intended objectives. It is crucial for the government to address the reasons behind the abandonment and implement appropriate measures to revive the factory’s operations.

Local residents, who had initially anticipated the positive impact of the factory on their community, are now left disappointed by its current state. The overgrown premises and locked gates reflect a lost opportunity for employment, income generation, and the utilization of local resources.

Efforts should be made to explore potential solutions, such as identifying investors or engaging with private enterprises, to reactivate the factory and restore its functionality.

It is essential to prioritize the revival of the mango processing factory in Kintampo to ensure the realization of the 1D1F objectives and to fulfill the aspirations of the local population for economic development and improved livelihoods.
