The Municipal Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira East Municipality, Hon. George Anane Colman, has cautioned individuals involved in drug peddling to desist from the illegal trade or face the full rigours of the law.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of a tour to assess the municipality’s performance over the past year, Hon. Anane Colman expressed satisfaction with the Assembly’s achievements, describing its performance as impressive.

He disclosed that funds from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) are now disbursed based on specific percentage allocations to support priority projects.

In the area of education, the Assembly has constructed a Six-unit classroom block at Tontom, a CHPS Conpound at Babiani, and another Three-unit classroom block at Zion No. 1.

To address water challenges, the Assembly has also drilled ten mechanised boreholes across various communities within the municipality to improve access to potable water.

Additionally, several inner roads are being reshaped to ease movement for motorists and enhance transportation within the municipality.

Hon. Anane Colman further revealed that an abandoned school building at Kyekyewere is being converted into a Zonal Council office to decentralised revenue mobilisation efforts.

The facility, located at the heart of the Kyekyewere market square, is expected to boost the Assembly’s internally generated funds.

He noted that part of the DACF allocation has also been reserved for the construction of a 24-hour market infrastructure project to promote local economic activities.

Addressing social concerns, the Municipal Chief Executive urged the youth to stay away from drug abuse and focus on their education.

He also advised those engaged in drug peddling to venture into legitimate businesses, stressing that Ghana’s laws are clear on drug-related offences.

“The Assembly will soon declare war on drug peddlers in the municipality,” he warned.
