Sunyanimanhene funeral: Businesses activities halt in Sunyani

Business activities in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital have halted, as hundreds of mourners arrived in the capital to pay their last respects to the late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, the Sunyanimanhene.

All the shops, stores and markets in the capital were closed when the News team went around the town on Wednesday.

The town seems quiet as none of the food vending businesses, petty trading and provision shopkeepers along the major streets of the capital were open.

However, essential services such as banking, healthcare and mobile money vending were operating.

Hitherto, the Sunyani Traditional Council issued a directive for the closure of all stores, shops and other businesses to pave the way for the pre-burial and final funeral rites of the late chiefs between April 1 and April 7, 2024.

The directive, which has since received some public condemnation takes effective from Wednesday, April 3.

That compelled many of the residents in the capital who could afford to buy and stock their homes with the required consumables for the days of the funeral.

“Since my children are also in the house I need to come to the market, buy and store my kitchen with a lot of food” Agyei Korsah stated when Sky News chanced on him at the Nana Bosoma Central Market Tuesday.

For her, Yaa Ansu, another resident ” l am scared to come out so I am here to buy my things to stay in the house safely”.

According to Mary Akosua Brago, she usually visits the market every month to buy and store her house with the needed food and consumables.

Meanwhile, taxi drivers in the Municipality expressed worry about the slow nature of businesses, as the funeral rites gathered momentum.

The Sunyani Traditional Council has set April 1 to April 7, 2024, for the late Paramount Chief’s interment and Dotoyie.

Born on May 31, 1946, and known in private life as Osei Kofi, Nana Nkrawiri II, a retired educationist was enstooled on March 17, 1980 and died somewhere in 2023 after a short illness.
