Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have 56 points each from 30 matches and on top of the Ghana Premier League table as they both eye the League title at the end of the season.
Before today’s match, the Phobians and Porcupines were separated the league standings only with goals difference.
Both teams have been on a stellar run in the league having gone eight matches solidly without a defeat; Hearts of Oak have seven victories and just a draw in their last eight matches whereas Asante Kotoko hold five wins and three draws within the same period.
Ghana’s biggest game of the domestic football calendar lived up to its massive hype as Hearts of Oak edged Asante Kotoko 1-0 in a keenly contested matchday 31 action in the Ghana Premier League at Accra Sports Stadium.
The match generated a lot of interest and reactions not only because it involved Ghana’s two biggest clubs or the two most successful clubs in Ghana Premier League (GPL) history, but also because with the two teams tied on points at the top of the League table heading into the showdown, the winners were going to take a significant step towards the title.
At the end of the full 90 minutes plus 4 stoppage time, Coach Samuel Boadu left the Accra Sports Stadium with the maximum three points as the strike from Afriyie Barnieh on the 66th minute sealed the victory for Hearts of Oak.
