TELECOM TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCES “ONE DIGIT” CALL NUMBER

The ability of scientific technology is advancing everywhere, everyday. This has resulted that some technologists in the sector of communication have brought up with a system that could cut off more telecom digits to a limit of only two, preceding with a hash tag, that is; #10 to make a telephone call within a specific location or area.

It has been clearly announced that this connection could only work effectively within a specific country with the same telephone code therefore limiting the servicing catchment areas or jurisdictions.

Some countries in Asia have started experimenting this service. For experience sake, United Arab Emirates has launched this service by the telecommunication firm called Etisalat.

According to the premier telecom firm to start testing this technology in UAE, Etisalat; customers subscribing to the service are assigned a unique #TAG number linked to their postpaid phone number. So, instead of dialling the 10-digit phone number, they can be reached with the #TAG.

For example, a person whose phone number is 050-XXXXXXX can be dialled up with #100 if he/she manages to buy the #TAG. This is not a new mobile number; it is a code that will be connected to a subscriber’s existing postpaid mobile number.
