The Ghana cedi has lost 4.0% in value to the US dollar in the first month of 2026.

According to the January 2026 Summary of Economic and Financial Data by the Bank of Ghana, the cedi traded at GH¢10.88 to one American greenback in January 2026.

This is compared with GH¢10.45 in December 2025. In the retail market, the local currency sold at GH¢12.00 to one American greenback.

The cedi started 2025, losing 3.9% in value to the US dollar.

The depreciation streak continued in February 2025 and March 2025, but ceased in April 2025. In May 2025, the local currency gained 43% in value against the American greenback since January 1, 2025.

The strong appreciation continued for the rest of the year, as the cedi ended 2025 with a year-to-date gain of 40.7%,

Meanwhile, the cedi lost 4.9% and 4.1% respectively to the pound and euro in January 2026.
