Plans for a 50,000-seat stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex have been unveiled by Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams. This is part of the government’s goal to turn the region into a contemporary sports metropolis.

While acknowledging the infrastructure issues facing Ghana’s sports industry, Mr. Adams emphasized the government’s resolve to bring facilities up to world standards during his appearance on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

“We are looking to have a new stadium of that size around our Borteyman Sports Complex. Because we want to elevate that whole space into a sports city or village so that international clubs can come and camp and train there.

“With such a facility, we will also add accommodation. When this is done, in the future, you will not see accommodation for the Black Stars on the national budget. But we are working on a PPP arrangement,” he explained.

He also revealed that the government plans to complete the new stadium by 2028, with a minimum capacity of 50,000 seats.

“We want to do a minimum of 50,000 in the Borteyman space, and we should be able to finish it before 2028,” he said.

“The project is part of a larger strategy to promote sports tourism, draw international teams for training camps, and establish Ghana as a sports hub in Africa,” he added.
