The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which saw Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerge as the party’s flagbearer in the successful presidential primary held on January 31, 2026, has released a detailed schedule and set of rules for its next internal elections.
Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s general secretary, gave a news conference on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, where he described the plan for voter registration and election administration from the polling station to the constituency level.
He declared that on April 20, 2026, constituency-level voting will start.
“The process of registration of members will start from March 1 to 31, 2026. The data entry of members who have been registered will be between April 1 and April 10, 2026. After the data entry, there will be verification of its members from April 14 to 16, 2026,” he stated.
Internal elections would begin at the polling station level, Mr. Frimpong clarified. Between April 20 and April 24, nominations will be accepted and closed. From April 25 to April 30, candidates will be vetted, and from May 1 to May 4, appeals will be accepted.
The poll notification period is set for May 6–9, 2026.
He stated that data submission and certification for the polling station executives’ album would take place from April 17 to April 21 and that the polling station executives’ elections will take place from May 10 to May 16, 2026.
Elections for electoral area executives are planned for June 10–15, with data entry and result validation taking place from June 16–20. Notices of polling are set for June 5–8.
“In all these activities, the responsible office will be the constituency executive committee and the regional steering committee, with oversight responsibility by the national secretariat,” Mr. Frimpong clarified.
Nominations will open and close from June 22 to June 24 for the constituency executive elections. From June 25 to June 27, vetting will take place, and from June 28 to June 30, appeals will be accepted. Elections for constituency officers will take place from July 11 to July 12, with polling notices being sent out from July 2 to July 5.
The constituency album’s data entry will take place between July 13 and July 26, 2026.
The party leadership stated that it is confident that the procedures described will guarantee openness, equity, and widespread involvement in its internal democratic process.
