President John Dramani Mahama has promised to completely execute the recommendations of the investigation into the violence that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 elections, including giving all victims fair compensation.

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) executives, led by Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, the organization’s president, made the pledge during a courtesy call. In order to address these issues, the GJA delegation brought a number of concerns to the President.

“Last week, I received the investigative report on the two incidents. It details and catalogues everyone who was affected by the violence and the circumstances that led to it,” President Mahama said.

“We have handed it over to the Attorney-General. The Attorney-General will review it and, where necessary, hold people culpable and bring them to book,” he added.

He stated that the Attorney General has been entrusted by the government to decide on appropriate compensation for victims, including the families of the deceased and those who are still injured.

“What is the adequate compensation that we can give to people like that?” he said.

Furthermore, President Mahama pointed out that journalists performing their lawful duties have been impacted by electoral violence, in addition to innocent bystanders and political activists.
