The Russian Ambassador to Ghana has been consulted in relation to current cybercrime investigations involving a Russian national by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
To formally brief the Embassy on the issue, the Ministers, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, MP, and Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, met with H.E. Sergei Berdnikov at a high level.
According to the allegations, the suspect secretly videotaped Ghanaian ladies and posted the video online without getting their permission.
The involvement is a component of the government’s continuous endeavours to safeguard citizens and guarantee responsibility in cases that are strictly classified as cybercrimes under Ghanaian law.
Ghana’s law enforcement and cybersecurity authorities have launched preliminary investigations that suggest the suspect filmed private conversations without permission and made money off of the footage on the internet.
Officials have started the process of tracking down financial and digital data connected to the case.
The Ministers emphasised that the case is a blatant criminal crime under Section 67 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), which forbids the unconsented recording and distribution of intimate photos, rather than one involving morals or personal relationships.
They added that any international or Ghanaian people who might have redistributed the unlawful content are subject to inquiry.
