Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, has urged traders at Accra’s Okaishie and Makola markets to ensure fair and reasonable pricing of goods, particularly during the Christmas season, as she conducted a working visit to assess trading activities.
The tour was intended to engage market women and men, analyse current market conditions, and obtain firsthand information on sales trends throughout the holiday season.
The Minister was joined by Accra’s Mayor, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and the President of the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA).

Speaking with traders, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare sent President Mahama’s heartfelt Christmas greetings to all Ghanaian traders, urging them to capitalise on the present economic stability and let the profits show up favourably in consumer prices.
Fair pricing over the holiday season, she stressed, will help safeguard customers and maintain public confidence in vendors.
Mr. Clement Boateng, President of GUTA, thanked the Trade Minister and the government for what he called “bold policy initiatives” that have helped stabilise the economy.
He pointed out that traders and consumers had benefited somewhat from these actions.
Mr. Boateng further urged the government to assist the Union in upholding current regulations that prohibit foreigners from conducting retail business, emphasising that persistent infractions have a detrimental impact on regional companies.
Mrs. Pearl Poku, the National Women Organiser of GUTA, emphasised in her speech the enthusiasm among traders, especially women, over the appointment of a female Trade Minister.
She assured the support of traders for the government’s industrialisation and economic transformation plan and praised Hon. Ofosu-Adjare for what she called a creditable performance.
The visit was a component of the Ministry’s larger plan to engage stakeholders in order to make sure that government policies support equitable and sustainable economic growth while being sensitive to the needs of traders.
