Three people were arrested for using social media to pose as the Speaker of Parliament and the Inspector General of Police.

Three individuals have been arrested for posing as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Speaker of Parliament.

The three were detained by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team for posing as the Speaker, IGP, and other figures.

The suspects are Judith Soku, 31, Edem Soku, 33, and Gideon Awudi, 25.

They allegedly pretended to be the celebrities on social media in order to trick gullible people.

According to a police investigation, the suspects were also involved in online sales fraud on several social media platforms, credit card fraud, mobile money fraud, and airtime fraud.

Following a prolonged intelligence-led operation in the Volta Region’s Sogakope, Dzodze, and Penyi districts, they were apprehended in Sogakope and Dabala.

They are helping with investigations while they are being held.
