Newcastle is a small city with a big heart. You might be able to walk across it in fifteen minutes but there’s a whole lot to appreciate along the way. To celebrate our Newcastle campus, based at Newcastle University’s Law School, we’re looking at the top 5 reasons to study in Newcastle.

  1. Green spaces
    Newcastle is home to a gorgeous moor, a green space in the centre of the city that’s bigger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined.

Armstrong Park, Leazes Park and Jesmond Dene are just a couple of the stunning green spaces that make Newcastle one of the most beautiful cities in the UK. Urban Green, along with the people of Newcastle, care for 33 parks citywide. If you unwind by getting back to nature, Newcastle is the city for you.

2. Grey Street
Art historian and architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner described Grey Street as ‘one of the finest streets in England’. Located in the historic Grainger Town area of Newcastle, this street is home to some iconic architecture, including the beautiful Theatre Royal. Keep your head up to make the most of the stunning scenery or take a seat outside one of the numerous bars and restaurants to take it in at your own pace.

3. Boulevard Show Bar

4. Quayside Seaside
Newcastle Quayside has changed from a commercial dockside into a popular tourist attraction. The area is now home to stunning views and the ultra-modern Gateshead Millennium Bridge. It’s a great place to visit any time of the year but it’s unmissable during the summer when it’s transformed into Quayside Seaside.

Relax in the seaside paradise that’s only steps away from city amenities. You’ll find deckchairs, palm trees, candy-striped beach huts, golden sand, astro-turf area equipped with additional seating, giant outdoor games and an area designed to welcome a roster of street food vendors. You’ll also be able to join in with activities such as yoga and pilates.

5. Grainger Market
Housed in a Grade I Listed building built in 1835, Grainger Market houses 123 shops. Traditional fruit and veg, meat and cheese can be found alongside delicacies from across the world. As well as food, you’ll find plenty of vintage, retro and unique purchases in various specialist shops.

Grainger Market was named winner of ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’ in the Great British Market Awards 2020 thanks to the great shopping experience and lively atmosphere. You can also order delivery boxes of food and veg, pastries and meat directly from the market if you live nearby.
