Two journalists are in severe condition after a horrific incident in which an EPA anti-galamsey team was attacked close to Obuasi.

A team of journalists accompanying the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on a special operation to combat illegal mining activities was engaged in a tragic accident in the Ashanti Region.

The accident, which left two journalists in severe condition, happened in Afari after a violent encounter with unlicensed miners near Obuasi.

According to reports, the EPA team’s convoy was initially ambushed by illegal miners in Dadwene, a hamlet near Obuasi. The ferocity of the onslaught apparently compelled the EPA team and accompanying media workers to flee.

The ensuing disaster at Afari resulted in multiple injuries.

Ibrahim Abubakar, Media General’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, was one of the journalists involved, however he is unharmed.

Reporter William Evans-Nkum explained the apparent geographical disparity between the attack site and the accident site while asking the news desk for an update.
