Two nurses and a security guard are being held by police in Tamale on suspicion of stealing a newborn.

Two nurses and a security guard have been taken into custody by the Northern Regional Police Command to help with the investigation into the suspected theft of a newborn at One Heart Hospital in Lamashegu, Tamale.

The event was reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

According to preliminary investigations, a newborn boy was taken from the hospital’s maternity unit by a woman posing as a nurse and claiming to be giving him an injection.

Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah, two nurses on duty at the time, as well as Abukari Iddi, the on-duty security guard, have been detained by police to assist with the investigation.

To find the missing infant and apprehend anyone implicated, the police claim they are conducting intelligence-led operations.

The public has been reassured by the Police Command that it is dedicated to locating the infant and reunifying him with his family.
