The University of Ghana (UG) has reminded the general public of electronic card (e-card) requirements for vehicles at some entry points to the institution.
In a release by the registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei Mensah, on Sunday, June 12, 2022, she noted that this directive is strictly fastened at five gates to the university’s campus and should be obeyed as such. These are the Link Gate (towards GIMPA/Achimota), Main Gate (Opposite the Legon Police Station), North Gate (Close to the James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall, Haatso Rd.), and the South Gate (from Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research to National Highway 4–N4).
However, she stated that all stakeholders who are without electronic cards are advised to use the gate that leads from the Okponglo traffic light into the University of Ghana campus.
The statement added that the E-cards are not transferable and are supposed to be used only for the vehicles they have been issued for.
“Members of the University of Ghana Community and the general public are reminded that the UG electronic card (e-card) is required for vehicles to be able to access the following gates to and from the University’s Legon Campus:
– Link Gate (towards GIMPA/Achimota)
– Main Gate (Opposite the Legon Police Station)
– North Gate (Close to the James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall, Haatso Rd.)
– South Gate (From Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research to National Highway 4 – N4).
Please note that this directive is strictly enforced by designated personnel at the gates, and vehicles without the e-card will not be allowed entry through these gates.
E-cards are not transferable, and are to be used only for the vehicles for which they have been issued.
All stakeholders can, however, access the gate leading from the Okponglo Traffic Light into the University (Academic Freedom Road) without an e-card.
Please take note and adhere to this directive accordingly.” The release reads.
This comes after one of Ghana’s popular Raggae-dancehall musicians, Samini, posted a video on his Twitter handle trying to tease a gateman who denied him entry on the basis that he didn’t have an electronic card.
The video made many Ghanaians respond negatively to the musician for putting himself first and trying to interfere with the work of a professional gateman, thinking his fame surpasses everyone.
Meanwhile, Samini deleted the said video yesterday and apologized to the general public and the gateman for the “irresponsible” attitude he portrayed.
“After my post about the incident at the security gate I’ve realized majority of you advised that I should have done the right thing. Nothing makes my case right regardless of how many cards I have and how upset I got .#nocardnoentry Apologies to the young man doing his job.” He apologized.
