It takes a deep thinker to maintain his/her cool when abruptly confronted with an immense problem. However, the one who sees himself as wise may quickly jump into action, expressing their views and taking actions which they may later regret. The repercussions of their hasty response to such problems may compound the situation, making it worse than it was before.
Therefore, I will request Kweku Annan to maintain his cool in the face of his unexpected termination of appointment at the Net2 TV. Painful and unexpected as his sacking is to him, Rockson Adofo, the writer of this publication, will strongly advise him to zip up his mouth, give himself ample time to cogitate about it and then take the necessary steps to sort the situation.
He must bear in mind that in such critical situations, silence is golden.
Will he not be making the situation worse if he starts running his mouth, going on the offensive and threatening to reveal hidden secrets or opening the Pandora box? If he did that, it will become to him the proverbial saying, “when the die is cast, there is no turning back” or “when the heart decides, there is no turning back”
Should he and the owner of Net2 TV take entrenched positions, each holding firmly to their ground, casting insinuations against each other or hurling insults at one another, they will end up in a no win-win situation. They will rather be washing their dirty linen in public, soiling their reputation.
Patience is a virtue, I shall say it to both Kweku Annan and Kennedy Agyapong (Hon). Seek amicable ways to resolve the sticking problem so that you don’t end up worst enemies to prove right the adage, “today’s friends can be tomorrow’s enemies”
Kweku Annan has questioned the credibility of Dr Bawumia in his insults hurled at him about why he has taken the nation to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if indeed, he has the men and a solid economic team to manage the economy of Ghana.
Let Kweku Annan understand that the IMF was established to perform some specified functions hence its member states are allowed to avail themselves of its services when the need arose.
“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) works to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for all of its 190 member countries. It does so by supporting economic policies that promote financial stability and monetary cooperation, which are essential to increase productivity, job creation, and economic well-being. The IMF employs three main functions – surveillance, financial assistance, and technical assistance – to promote the stability of the international monetary and financial system”.
Ghana, like the other member states, has the right to approach IMF for assistance when the occasion arise. Nevertheless, how and when a country approaches it is more important than why a country avails itself of the benefits of the institution.
A prison is not built for beautification or for animals to be housed there but for human beings who go against the laws of the land. As a prison serves a specific purpose which must be fulfilled, so is the IMF. The IMF is established for a purpose as indicated above and its services are to be rendered in fulfilment of its aim to achieve its objective. Therefore, it is not wrong for nations to seek the assistance of IMF.
However, how and when a nation goes to the IMF for help is what one can talk about to judge their country’s leadership and government as to whether they are competent or incompetent to managing their economy.
When a pandemic like Covid-19 hits the world, throwing almost every country’s economy into crisis, will it not be right for Ghana as a member nation of the IMF to approach it for a bailout when other countries are doing so? When a devastating war is taking place between two far away countries that supply a sizeable worldwide need of oil and gas, and wheat and fertilizer, impacts the economies of many countries, throwing them into disarray, will it not just be right to approach the IMF for cushioning?
When in such a worldwide crisis Ghana feels adversely impacted, will it be wrong for the leaders to approach the IMF for help? The answer is a no.
Therefore, for Kweku Annan of all people to come out to tease or insult Dr Bawumia for taking Ghana to the IMF upon all his bragging of having the men and a strong economic team is too childish of him, unless he does not understand how the Covid-19 and the ongoing Russia/Ukraine war have negatively affected the world economy.
Upon all Kweku Annan’s crime, I call on Kennedy Agyapong (Hon) to rescind his decision of taking the “Hot Seat” programme off air. He should please reinstate and bring back Kweku Annan back. Additionally, I entreat Kweku Annan to be a prodigal son.
Both of them should be guided by the proverb about the teeth and the tongue living in the same cavity, fighting and resolving their problem by themselves.
