Veep urges UENR graduates to seek innovation with a purpose.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, vice president of the Republic of Ghana, has called for University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) graduates to seek innovation rooted in integrity, purpose, and teamwork in order to propel Ghana’s development.
When she spoke at the UENR’s 10th Congregation Ceremony in Sunyani, which was attended by parents, graduating students, university officials, and traditional authorities, she made the call.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, the Chairman of the University Council and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, as well as members of the Governing Council, the University’s administration, and its faculty all attended the ceremony.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised in her speech that although technical proficiency is essential in the modern world, it must be supplemented by purpose-driven creativity.
She urged graduates to maintain discipline and perseverance in their endeavours, pointing out that experimentation and even failure are crucial components of scientific and technological advancement.
The Vice President underlined the need for technologies that address Ghana’s particular development demands, stating that innovation is most effective when it is accessible, inexpensive, sustainable, and able to solve problems that arise on a daily basis.
She also emphasised the need of collaboration as a catalyst for significant innovation, advocating for closer ties between academic fields, institutions, business, and communities.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang honoured the founding leadership of the university and recognised the responsibilities played by academic staff, administrators, and traditional authorities in the development of UENR.
She also thanked parents and guardians for their sacrifices in supporting their children’s education and praised academics and researchers for their contributions to knowledge and creativity.
She urged political figures, private investors, and business leaders to increase their involvement with the university, pointing out that while the government is still dedicated to establishing a favourable policy environment, policies by themselves are not enough to spur development.
Strong institutions, smart alliances, and consistent investment, in her opinion, are essential for turning ideas into national advancement.
The Vice President encouraged the graduating class to stay inquisitive, disciplined, and dedicated to greatness in her final remarks, urging them to let integrity direct their professional careers.
She reminded them that their ideas, enthusiasm, and readiness to collaborate for the sake of everybody will determine Ghana’s destiny.
