The Hookup culture is big in Ghana. Although done in secrecy, many girls are into this trade especially with the introduction of social media.
Hooking up generally refers to having s*x; however, many girls have indicated that when they say hooking up they are referring to something less than intercourse.
In a hookup culture, young people often have little experience with dating and developing romantic relationships–they just go straight to the bed and start the action.
Hookup is just a polished tern for prostitution in recent times and according to a Ghanaian actress, over 90% of girls in the country are into the hook up business.
Emerging Ghanaian actress Stephanie Barasu has shed light on what many girls, including celebrities, really use their social media pages for.
Sharing her personal experience in a recent interview, Stephanie said becoming a hook up girl on social media is much more easier than finding a 9-5 job in Ghana.
She explained that she, like other girls, had no option than to join the bandwagon in other to fend for themselves and their families.
”I started after SHS right after my mom died in 2014. I travelled to Accra from the Volta region to hustle. Eventually, I was introduced to it by a late friend. I began doing naked live videos on Facebook and later continued with Snapchat premium,” the actress said in the video.
Stephanie then dropped the bomb exposing about 90 percent of girls in the country including some top celebrities.
She said, “About 90 to 95 per cent of ladies on social media are into hookup but it is not what they want. It is due to the situation they are in”.
Speaking on why she decided to quit, Stephanie disclosed that she made nothing from all the s*x she gave out to men and she put her life in danger a couple of times.
”One time, a client stole my phone and money after we had s*x. Other times they do not pay after the service. They will tell me that they will send via mobile money but they don’t.”
