Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s lawyer, Frank Davies, has said that his American legal team is attempting to quickly resolve his immigration matter and that a judgement is anticipated in the next few days.

On Thursday, January 8, Frank Davies stated on Citi Eyewitness News that Ofori-Atta has submitted a request to have his U.S. immigration status extended.

In spite of this, he was detained at the Caroline Detention Facility by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Mr. Davies clarified, “The little I know from our counterpart lawyers in the U.S., limited as it is, is that he’s put in a petition for an extension of his immigration status, and contingent upon that, ICE, for whatever reason picked him up.”

The reason for the detention is still unknown, he continued. “I cannot explain why they have decided to pick him up and detain him.”

However, Davies gave assurances that the legal team is working nonstop to find a solution.

“They are working to have this matter determined expeditiously. In the fullness of time, maybe in the next day or two, we will all get to know what decision has been taken,” he said.
