When You Make It As A Man In This Country, They Attribute It To Sakawa; Woman, You’re ‘Ashawo’
Nana Aba Anamoah, a prominent media figure in Ghana, has added her voice to the debates surrounding Jackie Appiah’s opulent home.
Jackie Appiah, a Ghanaian actress, has been accused by some online users of engaging in “prostitution” since she can’t build such a home with the money she makes from performing.
Nana Aba Anamoah has responded to the charges on Twitter after being upset by them.
A man’s success in Ghana is often attributed to sakawa (money rituals) or narcotics, said the general manager of GHOne TV and Starr FM.
Additionally, a woman is labeled as an ashawo when she succeeds (prostitute).
She said, “People who do this are caught in a snakepit forever.”
She wrote;
“When you make it as a man in this country, they attribute it to sakawa or drugs.
You make it as a woman, you’re ashawo.
People who do this are permanently stuck in a snakepit. Wake up from the folly and attempt to make your life better too.
God be with us all.”
