A 58 year-old woman jailed for preparing ‘Shito’ with rotten vegetables.

Report indicates that a 58 year-old woman, E has been sentenced to prison for a month with a fine of GHS4200.00.

Elizabeth Arthur, a 58-year-old lady from Koforidua, was detained by the authorities for what was thought to be an unsafe method of making the regionally produced pepper sauce known as shito.

Naana, a woman who sells shito in the city, was discovered by some millers since she frequently visits them to have her ingredients ground.

According to UTV reporter Michael Akrofi, this until one of the mill workers decided to inform the police so they could investigate.

The reporter went on to say that some of the ingredients Naana uses for her shito include onion peels that are discarded at “chop bars.”

“A miller was the first to notice this activity by the woman called Elizabeth Arthur, who is popularly known as Naana in Koforidua. She is 58 years. The millers realised that anytime she brings things to be milled, they were all rotten and unwanted things.

“The millers also know the work the woman does; she sells shito, so they were convinced that what she comes to grind is for the shito. To confirm this, the millers started observing her and truly confirmed that she was using those things to prepare her shito.
