A delegation led by the national chairman of the chamber of automobile dealership ghana mr.Eddie Kusi Ankamah and other sister unions and associations on Tuesday 10/10/2023 ,met the director of Ghana automotive council to delibrate on the issues affecting the dealers in the used auto industry..Chairman of vadag Tema branch mr.Minta said the opening prayers and the meeting started exactly 10;45am . In his opening remarks,mr.Kojo Anobil head of the automotive development council noted with much pain the effect of the global downturn on our businesses as well as the unstable dollar rate and other local charges. To him it is time to think outside the box to sustain the dealership. He however proposed that there is no provision for ghana used vehicles and that very soon the new assemblers wil find it difficult to get space for vehicles that are up.to a certain age and they are to come and replace it with the new one.He therefore wanted our view to strike a deal with the assemblers to supply garage owners such vehicles. Again he said there are other existing firms in the country but due to the none availability of such avenue they don’t make use of the replacement offer to their customers in ghana. All were encouraged to embrace the concept for the benefit of all.
The executive secretary of Cadeg Mr.George Dumenu wanted to know if it will not creat mistrust for the executives from the various dealership since there a lot of unfinished issues so far as the automotive policy is concerned
Again he wondered if it would not be considered as the used auto dealers are entering into a partnership with the new assemblers on the blind side of the various unions. In his response, mr. Anobil said that the meeting was not government initiatives but in his capacity as individual facilitating a deal between the used and the new dealer for the growth of the industry. Leadership were urged to carry the massage to their members to also bring their inputs before arranging a meeting with the new assemblers..The national coordinator of Cadeg mr.Vincent Ayertey Odornkor wanted to know how many Ghana used cars the assemblers would be able to supply our members since we are many.In his response mr .Anobil said it is a new beginning and cannot quote any figures but hope the prospects are great and hopefully it may eventually leads to the supply of new ones to the dealership depending on one’s trust worthiness..Leadership from the other unions welcome the proposal and are all of the view that it will go a long way to lessened the burden of using the dollar which is now hard to come by to do international trade. The meeting came to a close at exactly 12;45pm and closing prayers were said by mr Ibrahim Saed
