Galamsey Fight: We need a Patriotic leader to fight the canker and any form of Illegalities – Communications officer
The president of the republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwaa Akuffo Addo recently defended the Akonta Mining Company Limited, claiming that the firm is not engaged in illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
Reacting to this statement by the president, the Ahafo Regional communications officer of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Apraku Larthey has said we need a leader who has the country at heart and is ready to fight for the development and welfare of its members.
He insisted that president Akuffo Addo is an unpatriotic leader who has no feelings of pain for the Ghanaian citizens in this economic hardship hence the continuous distraction of our lands, forests, and water bodies with Galamsey activities.
Mr. Apraku speaking in an interview on High Radio Morning Show dubbed High Morning Breeze chaired by Kwaku Mensah Abrampa insisted that when someone who has greater affection for the country with no intention of gaining power alone and not steals from the country, nothing will prevent such leader from considering the lives and welfare of its members from illegalities stressing that the rate at which illegal mining activities is destroying our water bodies and forest, the president should have resigned from his post by now for not being able to put into action his promise for the fight against galamsey during his campaign.
Mr. Apraku Larthey added that Ghanaians have not erred by voting for Nana Akuffo Addo and his NPP Government because the President deceived us by telling lies and giving empty promises hence the decision of the masses to vote the NPP into power.
He indicated that the NPP promised to exempt the country from IMF but we are now battling with a series of conditionalities from the IMF which showcase the failure of the president and his party.
He therefore urged the Ghanaian populace to rally behind the NDC by voting them into power come 2024 to ameliorate the hardship we are going through as citizens.
Touching on the Ghc500,000 proposed amount as a filling fee for the NDC presidential candidates in the upcoming primaries, the communication officer explained that the presidential and parliamentary primaries are going to be organized across the whole country therefore huge amount of money is needed to carry out that operation hence the decision of the party to Pegg the filling fee to Ghc500,000 indicating that the fee is not meant to disenfranchise anyone who has plans to contest In the presidential primaries.
