The District Chief Executive for Suaman in the Western North Region, Hon. Philip Kwabena Boahen (Chief Guardien), has commended the efforts of farmers in the district, and stressed that their daily toil has fed and keeps citizens alive.
Speaking at this year’s Farmer’s Day celebration at Kwasuo, a suburb of Dadieso in the Suaman district, Hon. Boahen involved in the act to put a smile on the faces the farmers as he encouraged them to be more proactive since farming was a prelude of human activity.
He therefore congratulated the farmers for their hard work, and called for their support for the government to implement more agricultural projects in interest of Ghanaians for the growth of the country.
The Chiefs and security personnel advocated and graced the event with the aim of propagating against galamseyers destroying the water bodies and farmlands in the Suaman lands, therefore warned people who cause the destructions of farming activities to desist from such acts.
Madam Sakinatu Ganyo, a resident of Kwasuo, was adjudged the Overall District Best Farmer and took away assorted items of farm inputs including a tricycle (motor king).
Other rewards that were emerged were Best Female farmer, Best Youth Farmer, Best Fish Farmer, etc.
Hon. Philip Boahen urged the farmers to give more of their tireless and contributions to food security, industry, and Ghana’s economy in general.
He therefore touched on government’s efforts on making agriculture attractive and helps reducing unemployment in the country.
Touching on the theme for this year’s celebrations in an interview with Nyamekye Radio’s Appiah Kubi, the DCE said, “Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition”, was his strong conviction that all stakeholders and farmers would avail themselves to collaborate with the government and Suaman district to sustain the significant gains in the interventions laid by government in agriculture such as the planting for food and jobs, planting for export and rural development, the YouStart, among other programs creating job avenues for the youth.
“While we acknowledge the role of our farmers and fisher folks for achieving this feat, it behooves us to work even harder to justify and maintain this accolade and continually remain relevant in supplying the needed food requirement of the nation.” the DCE concluded.
