He highlighted that these laptops would come equipped with textbooks and other educational materials to be utilized during lessons, with the ultimate goal of equipping students to excel in the global village.
Dr. Bawumia underscored the significance of investing in education as a pivotal driver for propelling the nation forward in the right direction and cultivating future builders of the nation.
During his speech on Saturday, he expressed, “The Minister for Education has also assured me that this year, we’ll start the replacement of textbooks with laptops that have textbooks embedded in Senior High Schools.”
This revolutionary endeavor builds upon the recent introduction of the One-teacher One-laptop project, which was launched by the government on September 3, 2021.
The project was initiated to equip SHS teachers with modern resources that augment teaching and learning methodologies.
Encouraging progress has already been made, as the Ghana Education Service reported on December 11, 2021, that 80% of the laptops designated for teachers had already been distributed.
The implementation of laptops as textbook replacements is anticipated to occur before the conclusion of 2023.
The introduction of laptops in place of traditional textbooks marks a transformative milestone in Ghana’s educational landscape.
This shift towards digital resources will empower students with a wealth of knowledge and digital literacy skills crucial for success in today’s interconnected world.
By leveraging technology, the government seeks to enhance the educational experience and ensure that Ghanaian students are well-prepared to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the modern era.
