Undertaker Reveals He Once Slept in the Same Room as a Corpse Due to Poor Working Conditions

A well-known undertaker in Ghana’s Eastern Region and Vice President of the Kwahu Undertakers Association, popularly known as Adom Ba Adom, has shared a surprising experience from his years in the profession, revealing that he once had to sleep in the same room as a deceased person while carrying out his duties.

Adom Ba Adom made the revelation during an exclusive interview on Ewiase Mu Nsem TV, monitored by GH Page, where he spoke about the realities and challenges faced by undertakers in Ghana.

According to him, the incident occurred because he had been left without proper accommodation after being contracted by a bereaved family to prepare the body for burial.

The experienced undertaker explained that many families focus solely on the funeral arrangements and often overlook the welfare of the professionals handling the deceased. He said undertakers are frequently not provided with food, accommodation or a suitable place to rest, despite spending long hours preparing bodies for burial.

Recalling the incident, Adom Ba Adom said he arrived to begin work on the deceased but later realised there was nowhere for him to sleep after working late into the night.

Feeling exhausted and with no alternative available, he decided to sleep in the same room where the body had been placed until he resumed work the following day.

According to him, such situations are more common than many people realise, particularly when undertakers are assigned jobs in communities far from their homes.

His comments have sparked discussions on social media about the working conditions of undertakers and the need for bereaved families to consider the welfare of funeral service professionals who play a vital role in ensuring loved ones receive dignified final preparations.

Adom Ba Adom’s account has also highlighted the often-overlooked challenges faced by undertakers, including long working hours, difficult environments and limited support while carrying out their responsibilities.
