Dead body retrieved from trotro swept away by floods
A heartbreaking discovery has been made in Alajo after the body of a teenage girl was recovered from a commercial minibus (trotro) that was carried away during Monday’s severe flooding in parts of Accra.
The minibus, which had been swept into a large drain by the powerful floodwaters, was located on Wednesday, July 1, after water levels subsided. Residents who inspected the vehicle found the lifeless body of the young girl trapped inside.
Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased, and investigations are underway to determine how she became trapped in the vehicle before it was swept away.
The latest discovery has further highlighted the devastating impact of the floods that followed hours of torrential rainfall, leaving a trail of destruction across several communities in the Greater Accra Region. Homes, vehicles and major roads were submerged, forcing thousands of residents to flee their properties.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, Interior Minister disclosed that the disaster had displaced 38,802 people and claimed at least 12 lives as of Tuesday morning. He also revealed that seven people remained missing while 7,761 households in 25 communities across 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies were affected.

The flooding also disrupted transportation and prevented many workers and commuters from reaching Accra’s Central Business District, as emergency teams continue search, rescue and recovery operations. If you’d like, I can also make it sound more like a breaking news report or a front-page newspaper story.
