The newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Akwatia, Mr. Daniel Nyame, has expressed confidence that the party will reclaim the Akwatia parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections with an even stronger mandate.
Speaking in an interview after his victory, Mr. Nyame attributed the NPP’s loss of the seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to internal divisions rather than a lack of public support. He said the party remains popular in the constituency and believes unity will be the key to its comeback.
According to him, rebuilding cohesion among party members will be his top priority as constituency chairman. He stressed that without unity, the NPP would struggle to regain the seat following the death of the late Member of Parliament, Hon. Ernest Yaw Kumi.
“The NPP in Akwatia needs unity and peaceful coexistence if we are to rebuild the party and prepare adequately for the 2028 elections,” he said.
Mr. Nyame was elected constituency chairman after securing 593 votes, defeating his closest contender, Mr. Ali Abubakar, who obtained 313 votes.
He described his victory as a triumph for the entire party rather than any particular faction and pledged to work closely with both former and current executives to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures.
He also assured party supporters that his leadership would be inclusive, promising to engage all members regardless of their affiliations within the party.
Commenting on the current representation of the constituency, Mr. Nyame criticized the NDC Member of Parliament, alleging that the MP had done little to advance the development of Akwatia. He maintained that the constituency would benefit more from NPP representation in Parliament.
Addressing the youth, Mr. Nyame urged them to prioritize education and avoid the abuse of illegal drugs. He noted that the future of the constituency depends largely on its young people and encouraged them to make responsible choices that would contribute to the community’s development.
