Repatriated Ghanaian Describes South Africa as Unsafe, Advises Against Travel
A Ghanaian man who was part of the second batch of citizens repatriated from South Africa has shared his experiences, describing the country as unsafe and cautioning others against traveling there.
Speaking upon his arrival, the returnee claimed that personal security remains a major concern in South Africa, particularly at night.
According to him, the situation contrasts sharply with Ghana, where he believes people can move around more freely after dark without fear of being attacked.
“South Africa is a very unsafe country. Unlike Ghana, where you can walk freely at night, you cannot do the same in South Africa. If you try, you will be robbed or attacked,” he said.
The repatriated Ghanaian also rejected suggestions that foreigners are primarily responsible for criminal activities in the country, alleging instead that many of the crimes are committed by local citizens.
“Foreigners are not the ones involved in robbery and other illegal activities; it is South African citizens who engage in such acts,” he stated.
Based on his personal experience, he said he would not encourage anyone to travel to South Africa.
“I would not advise anyone to go to South Africa,” he added.
His remarks come as Ghanaian authorities continue efforts to assist and evacuate citizens affected by recent developments in South Africa.
While concerns about crime and safety have been raised by some residents and visitors in South Africa over the years, experiences can vary widely depending on location and individual circumstances. Authorities in South Africa have repeatedly undertaken measures aimed at improving public safety and combating crime.
The comments have since sparked discussions on social media, with many users sharing differing views on safety, migration, and the experiences of foreigners living in South Africa.
