Unemployed Man Remanded After Allegedly Losing Ex-Girlfriend’s GH¢114,000 on Football Betting – Read
An unemployed man identified as Apetor has been remanded into custody after allegedly withdrawing and squandering GH¢114,000 belonging to his former girlfriend on football betting.
According to information presented before the court, the complainant had borrowed the money and deposited it into Apetor’s Ecobank account as part of plans to strengthen their visa application for travel abroad.
Prosecutors alleged that Apetor secretly obtained an ATM card linked to the account without the complainant’s knowledge. He is also accused of acquiring a cheque book for the account and hiding it in their room to create the impression that the funds were still untouched. The complainant reportedly checked the cheque book regularly, believing her money remained safe.

The alleged fraud came to light when the woman later requested the money, only to discover that the account had been emptied. She subsequently lodged a complaint with the police, leading to Apetor’s arrest.
During police interrogation, Apetor reportedly admitted that he had withdrawn the funds and spent the majority of the money on football betting, where he lost most of it.
Investigators were able to recover GH¢35,000 from him, but GH¢79,000 remains unaccounted for.
The court has remanded Apetor into custody while investigations continue and further legal proceedings are expected.
